Siemens to develop state-of the-art, smart urban mobility solutions in GIFT City

GIFT Ltd., IL&FS and Siemens Ltd. signed a MoU to develop smart mobility solutions for GIFT City. As part of the agreement, Siemens will collaborate with IL&FS to complete a preliminary study, develop and design a world-class smart, city level mobility solutions for individuals and groups both within the GIFT City and between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.  Successful implementation of the Smart Urban Mobility can be done by integrating multi-modal transport system which includesBus Rapid Transit System and Mass Rapid Transit System with Intelligent Transport System and Smart Parking System. All this steps will go a large way in enhancing the quality of living with sustainable environment.

The MoU was signed by Mr Hari Sankaran, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, IL&FS; Mr Ajay Pandey, CEO, GIFTCo. Ltd.; andMr Sunil Mathur, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Siemens Limited.

The MoU was signed during the visit by German chancellor Angel Merkel’s visit to Bangalore, India from October 4-6 as part of the Intergovernmental consultations between India and Germany. The delegation with Merkel included some of the renowned German corporate including Siemens AG.

On the occasion of the signing of the MoU, President and CEO Siemens AG, Joe Kaesaremphasised on the need for establishing local competencies in India and confirmed the commitment of the company towards the “MAKE IN INDIA” programme of Government of India. He also stated that Siemens has been focusing on India since it is an attractive market and the Company is already having its presence. He also remarked that this MoU has been signed as part of the Company’s policy of establishing local competences and support the"Make in India" program. The Company as part of the program will focus on establishment of Energy Management, Mobility, Smart Cities and Health technology.

Mr Hari Sankaran, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, IL&FS; speaking on the occasion said that GIFT city is designed to generate additional employment in the financial and IT services sector. The city will take advantage of the rich availability of skilled manpower in these sectors to develop as an IFSC. He further commented that globally it has been recognized that such initiatives have multiplier impact on the economy of the region as well as the nation once the operations are full-fledged.

Sunil Mathur, MD and CEO, Siemens Limited, stated that Smart cities can be developed with a mix of intelligent planning. For sustainable urban transformation, there is a need to integrate the 4 core pillars which are:-
Integrated and Multimodal Mobility, Reliable Power, Secure and Smart Buildings, and Clean Environment.

He further opined that GIFT City with its integrated development is the ideal blueprint for the future Smart Cities of India. He also lauded IL&FS as a pioneer in launching infrastructure projects in India.IL&FS has been involved in numerous successful urban projects in India. The Company believes that they can help build GIFT City into aIFSC which is competitive and above par with the other global financial centers.
