Varsity City to come wrapping around GIFT City

The Government of Gujarat has planned an educational city on the lines of International Educational cities like Harvard Institutional Zone, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) near Gandhinagar. GUDA which is the Urban Development Authority for Gandhinagar has already started work on this ambitious project and this educational city will be known as “NEW Gandhinagar”. The city is planned to be spread across 19 sq. km and will extend from Palaj village in north to Valad in the south. It will wrap around GIFT City and will be 8.5 km in length and 4 km in width in the north and 1.5 km in the south.

The educational city will share its boundary with the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) university campus and the new IIT-Gn Campus. The entire area will be 1,900 hectares out of which 200 hectares will be reserved for institutional campuses. The remaining area will be landscaping and will have green areas, water bodies, jogging tracks and cycling tracks. The city is designed to ensure that the area retains its natural contours and there is no damage to the green areas. The network of street and sectors will be developed around these natural contours.

The planning of such a city is important since the Government of Gujarat is planning to hold an International Educational Investment Summit in Gandhinagar in the near future.  GUDA plans to design the land parcels with minute details to mitigate any hardship for the Foreign Universities. It will be developed on a “Plug-and-Play” model which will enable the universities to start functioning from Day 1 and it is ready to use.
